Building a Resilient Workplace Depends on This

We recently completed a series of WeCARE™ workshops for employees and managers in the healthcare sector. The workshops were designed to help participants recognize the difficulties they've faced in their personal and professional lives over the past two pandemic years and to help them feel more comfortable supporting one another.

In preparation for the workshop, participants completed the online WeCARE™ eLearning module which helped them, and their colleagues, know how to support each other and assess how they’re coping. WeCARE™ is about helping team members be closer and more confident in one another, and thereby achieve greater results for themselves and the organization.

One workshop participant shared:

“I was unsure what this workshop would provide when I signed up.  My hope at the very least was that I would be provided with resources to help my staff, students, and anyone else that might need a helping hand.

To my great pleasure, it was much more than that.  The discussions and education provided me with acknowledgment of my own needs as a manager and as an individual.   It forced me to look at what I can change to improve what I can give to myself and then be present in a better way for my work life.”

Caring for your people is one of the greatest things you can do to build a resilient workplace. It breaks down mental health stigma and delivers on the health and safety promise we all make to each other.

Caring for one another is hardwired into our DNA. It is a component of what makes us human, and it is primarily what keeps us involved and active in our communities and our lives in general.

The ongoing events impacting us on a global scale have demonstrated that caring for others may help us restore hope, find much-needed support, re-establish lost connections, and demonstrate a true commitment to one another.

What if we could replicate this level of deep, meaningful human connection in the workplace?

Consider how you would feel if you went to work every day knowing you had the power to show people how much you cared for them and that you could easily see how much others cared for you.

How many organizations do you know that can claim to have cultivated a genuinely caring culture for their people?

Learning how to articulate what we notice in others, showing them that we care, and discussing potential routes for support and solutions are critical to our development as people and as an organization.

There is a technique that can be taught to do this in a few simple steps. It's called the ICARE Framework, which was briefly highlighted in the workshop.

The ICARE Framework is a central part of the WeCARE™ eLearning program. The framework is just one example of the many helpful resources included in the program and provides five evidence-based steps to help colleague who is struggling.
